Conservatives embraced cancel culture, calling for a ban on the newly released song, “WAP,” from Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion.
The song immediately became a viral sensation, racking up over 33 million views in its first 24 hours of release on YouTube.
But the sexually explicit lyrics went over the line for some on the right.
“”It should be banned,” declared conservative pundit DeAnna Lorraine, who recently ran unsuccessfully to challenge Speaker Nancy Pelosi in California. “The Democrats support this trash and depravity.”
James Bradley (R), a current candidate for the seat in California’s 33rd congressional district, slammed the popular rap duo as well.
“Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion are what happens when children are raised without God and without a strong father figure,” he wrote.
Bradley is unlikely to defeat the incumbent, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), a popular congressman who has frequently directly challenged the Trump administration.
“It’s like one big advertisement for promiscuity,” wrote CA-37 district candidate Errol Webber. “Encourages wild and unsafe sex.”
Webber is challenging Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) and is unlikely to defeat her. Bass has been discussed as a possible running mate for Vice President Joe Biden.
Conservatives have recently claimed that liberals have embraced a “cancel culture” as America reassess racism, sexism, and misogyny. But with the attack on Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, the right has targeted cultural juggernauts who are uncancellable.
“WAP” continues to rack up massive plays across the web despite the right.
