Sally-Anne Bowen is a 65-year-old former chemistry teacher who taught at Christ’s College Finchley, an all-boys school in north London. Bowen was charged over allegations that she sexually abused two male pupils when they were approximately 14 and 15 years old in the late 1980s. She originally faced eight counts of indecent assault and has denied the allegations. During her August 2026 trial at Harrow Crown Court, a judge directed the jury to acquit her on one count, leaving seven counts to be decided.

Bowen Accused Of Having Sex With Teenage Pupil Up To 30 Times. One former pupil told the court that he regarded Bowen as his girlfriend and visited her home during an alleged relationship lasting several months. The mother of one of Bowen’s accusers testified that she discovered a black-and-white photobooth photograph showing her 14-year-old son with Bowen. Former Student Says Alleged Relationship Began After Encounter Over Adult Magazine. One accuser alleges that Bowen encountered him and other pupils looking at an adult magazine and made an explicitly sexual comment about one of its images. Witness Says Bowen Frequently Discussed Sexual Topics With Pupils. Tobias Oliver, another former Christ’s College pupil who was not one of the alleged victims, testified that Bowen’s classroom conversations sometimes moved away from chemistry and became sexual. He described her behavior and appearance as markedly different from other teachers at the school. Teaching Panel Permanently Banned Bowen From Teaching. Before the criminal case reached trial, a Teaching Regulation Agency professional-conduct process examined allegations against Bowen. The panel found on the civil standard of proof that she had engaged in sexual activity with a pupil and recommended a prohibition order. The government subsequently barred Bowen indefinitely from teaching in schools, sixth-form colleges, relevant youth accommodation and children’s homes in England, without allowing her to apply for restoration of her teaching eligibility. Accuser Says Christ’s College Failed To Stop Alleged Relationship. One former pupil alleges his relationship with Bowen was an “open secret” among pupils and teachers. His mother says she raised concerns with the school and was told Bowen would leave and never teach again.
