Salvatore Maimone is a former mathematics teacher at Henry Abbott Technical High School in Danbury, Connecticut. Maimone was arrested in May 2022 after Connecticut State Police investigated allegations that he had a months-long sexual relationship with a teenage female student. He was initially charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault, second-degree stalking and interfering with an officer. Maimone later pleaded guilty to sexual assault and stalking and was sentenced to 28 months in prison followed by 10 years of probation and sex-offender registration.

Student Said Sexual Relationship With Maimone Began After He Flirted With Her At School. According to Maimone’s arrest warrant, the student said she met him during the previous school year and that he began flirting with her during the fall 2021 semester. She told investigators that Maimone made advances toward her, kissed her and encouraged her to visit him while he was working a second job at a Danbury paint store. [CT Post]

Student Told Police She And Maimone Had Sex On Several Occasions. The teenager told investigators that after initially visiting Maimone at his second job, the relationship became sexual and the two had sex multiple times between approximately October 2021 and March 2022. [WLAD]

Police Say Sexual Encounters Occurred At Danbury Hotel. The student alleged that at least two sexual encounters occurred at a hotel in Danbury, including around Valentine’s Day and again in March 2022. Police said hotel records showed rooms were reserved on February 15 and March 24 under the name “Henry Abbott.” [CT Post]

Investigators Say Maimone Bought Student Jewelry And A Cellphone. Police said the teenager told them Maimone purchased gifts for her, including jewelry and a new cellphone. Investigators said they corroborated her account by examining Maimone’s phone and visiting the jewelry store where a ring had allegedly been purchased. [WLAD]

Maimone Saved Student’s Number Under A False Name. According to the arrest warrant, investigators found the student’s telephone number stored under a fake name in Maimone’s phone. Police also reported finding a photograph of the student in the device’s recently deleted photo folder. [News-Times]

Student Said Maimone Pressured Her After She Tried To Distance Herself. The teenager told police she began attempting to separate herself from Maimone after Christmas break. Student Said Maimone Used Life360 To Track Her Location. According to police, the teenager alleged that Maimone instructed her to create a Life360 account that allowed him to monitor her location. She told investigators that he began appearing unexpectedly at places where she was located after she tried to pull away from the relationship. [WLAD]

Maimone Initially Denied Having A Physical Relationship With Student. State police said Maimone initially denied allegations of an inappropriate relationship but acknowledged that he and the student had been close at school. After investigators found her number saved under a false name and other material on his phone, police said Maimone admitted communicating with the teenager but continued denying a physical relationship. Student Disclosed Relationship To School Officials Before Maimone’s Arrest. Henry Abbott Tech principal Kevin Durkin contacted Connecticut State Police after a female student disclosed that she had been involved in a sexual relationship with Maimone. Henry Abbott Tech Immediately Placed Maimone On Administrative Leave. School officials removed Maimone from his teaching duties after receiving the student’s disclosure and contacting law enforcement. [CT Post]

Personnel records showed Maimone’s contract as a mathematics instructor was terminated two days after the school learned of the alleged relationship and approximately a week before police arrested him. Maimone Arrested On Sexual Assault And Stalking Charges. Connecticut State Police arrested Maimone at his Watertown residence on May 13, 2022. He was initially charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault, second-degree stalking and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest and was held on $200,000 bond before his family posted bail. Maimone Pleaded Guilty To Sexual Assault And Stalking. In March 2023, Maimone pleaded guilty in Danbury Superior Court to one count of second-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree stalking as part of a negotiated plea agreement. [News-Times]
