Richard Vega Murder Allegations
Vega Charged With Judy Chamberlain Death. “Richard Vega, a 59-year-old convicted sex offender currently committed under Massachusetts’ sexually dangerous person statute, is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of Judy Chamberlain on July 28, 1988, Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins announced Monday.” [WHDH]
Vega In Prison For Sex Crimes. “He had been sentenced to 19 ½ to 20 years in prison, and as his release grew closer, prosecutors petitioned to have him civilly committed under the states SDP statute. He was found to be sexually dangerous in 2008 and remains civilly committed.” [Boston 25]
Vega DNA Matched Chamberlain Case. “Boston Police and Suffolk prosecutors first identified Vega as a suspect in the murder back in 2011. At that time, Vega had to submit DNA after being convicted of raping an elderly woman in Revere, MA in 1987. Investigators said Vega’s DNA matched the suspected killer’s DNA in an FBI database, but, according to a news release, they did not think they had evidence to prove guilt of homicide beyond a reasonable doubt.” [ABC 6]
Chamberlain Family: Our Family Has Waited 33 Years For Justice. ““Our family has waited 33 years for someone to be arrested for the brutal death of our sister Judy,’’ Chamberlain’s brother said in a statement. “We thank all of those involved in his capture. Our sister can now lay in peace and our family has closure. We love and miss you Judy.”” [WCVB]
