
Michael Riley is a police officer who worked as part of the Capitol Police in Washington DC. Riley has been accused with obstructing justice and allegedly attempting to cover up the actions of one of the people who attacked the Capitol on January 6 2021.

Riley Charged With Obstruction. “The cop, Michael Riley, allegedly deleted Facebook messages to and from that person a day after the other person was arrested on Jan. 19, according to a charging document. The deletions occurred after the other man told Riley that “they took my phone and downloaded everything” and that the FBI “was very curious” about the duo’s communications on the heels of the riot, the document says.” [CNBC]
Police: Riley Gave Advice To Alleged Rioter. “When the alleged rioter said he didn’t think he did anything wrong, Riley alleged wrote, “The only thing I can see is if you went in the building and they have proof you will be charged. You could always articulate that you had no where to go, but thats for court.” He further wrote: “Dont sweat it, they might choose to only charge certain people and not everyone. Personally i dont know what they have decided, just know our guys and the FBI are going through everything.”” [WJLA]
Indictment: Riley Deleted Facebook Messages With Alleged Rioter. “Riley then deleted his own Facebook direct messages on January 20, his indictment says. Riley indicated in a final message on January 21 he was angry with the person after seeing video of the person smoking marijuana in the Capitol and “acting like a moron,” the indictment says.” [KTEN]
Capitol Police: Riley On Administrative Leave. “Obstruction of Justice is a very serious allegation. The Department was notified about this investigation several weeks ago. Upon his arrest, the officer was placed on administrative leave pending the completion of the case. The USCP’s Office of Professional Responsibility will then open an administrative investigation.” [Capitol Police Statement]
