John Amerigo Calabrese Arrested. “The teacher — 39-year-old John Amerigo Calabrese — worked at Northwest Cabarrus High School, according to an Aug. 28 booking report from the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office. Cabarrus County Schools’ website shows that Calabrese teaches social studies. The district said in an April 2023 social media post that Calabrese — who was then in his first year at Northwest Cabarrus — was named that year’s Beginning Teacher of the Year. An arrest warrant alleged that Calabrese “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did engage in sex” with a 10-year-old child. He was subsequently charged with indecent liberties with a child, and statutory sex offense with a child by an adult.” [WBTV]
