
Dr. Eteni Longondo is the former public health minister for the nation of Congo. Longondo has been accused of misappropriating over $1 million in funds that were allocated by the World Bank to be used in the fight against COVID-19.
Longondo was taken to prison in the city of Makata. He has claimed that he is innocent of the allegations.
Inspector General of Finance Jules Alingeti said the claims against Longondo emerged after an investigation by Congo’s Ministry of Health and the Central Bank of Congo.
Congo has had over 54,000 cases of COVID-19 infections and over 1,053 reported deaths.
