Golingan: OAN May Have Inspired Capitol Riot. “Marty Golingan, a producer at One America News Network, a right-wing cable news channel often noted for its affinity for former President Donald Trump, told The New York Times he was worried his work may have helped inspire the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.” [Yahoo]
OAN Staffers Don’t Believe 2020 Vote Fraud Stories. “Golingan said that many of his colleagues, including himself, disagreed with the coverage. “The majority of people did not believe the voter fraud claims being run on the air,” he told the Times.” [The Week]
OAN Staffers Say They Produce Fake News. “Some of OAN’s coverage has not had the full support of the staff. In interviews with 18 current and former OAN newsroom employees, 16 said the channel had broadcast reports that they considered misleading, inaccurate or untrue.” [NY Times]
OAN President Defended Network Against Golingan’s Claims. “OANN president Charles Herring spoke to the Times and defended the network’s coverage, saying in part, “A review process with multiple checks is in place to ensure that news reporting meets the company’s journalist standards.”” [Mediaite]

Smartmatic Sued Fox News For $1.7 Billion. “Filed in New York State Supreme Court, Smartmatic’s suit seeks at least $2.7 billion in damages. In addition to Mr. Murdoch’s Fox Corporation, Fox News and the three star anchors, it targets Rudolph W. Giuliani and Sidney Powell, lawyers who made the case for election fraud as frequent guests on Fox programs while representing President Trump.” [NY Times]
OAN Reportedly Fears Being Sued Next. “Dominion has filed defamation lawsuits against both Giuliani and Powell claiming over $1.3 billion in damages in each case. Smartmatic has sued Fox News for $2.7 billion. All of these lawsuits contend that Trump’s conspiracy-mongers seriously harmed these companies with their baseless allegations of a global plot—the Chinese communists! Hugo Chavez! the CIA!—to swipe the election for Trump. It was damn obvious that OAN was trying to save itself from a similar fate.” [Mother Jones]
