Marka Lee Bodine is a former Tomball Independent School District teacher in Texas who pleaded guilty in 2022 to aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14 after authorities said she sexually abused a former sixth-grade student for nearly three years. Bodine Taught Sixth-Grade Students At Tomball Intermediate School. Bodine began working for Tomball ISD in 2015 and taught at Tomball Intermediate School, which serves fifth- and sixth-grade students in the Houston-area district. The Student Was About 12 When Bodine Began Building A Relationship With Him. According to investigators and later sentencing testimony, Bodine began communicating with the boy when he was approximately 12 years old. Fortnite And Online Communications
Bodine Befriended The Student Through Fortnite. The student told investigators that Bodine began playing the online video game Fortnite with him and obtained his telephone number so they could communicate outside school. The communications later moved to text messaging. [KPRC]
The Communications Became Sexually Explicit. Investigators who examined Bodine’s phone and the student’s phone found messages and images exchanged between them, including sexually explicit material. [KPRC]
Bodine Admitted Sending Dozens Of Explicit Images. Court records cited by ABC13 said Bodine acknowledged sending the student approximately 25 to 40 sexually explicit photographs of herself between April 2020 and February 2021. [ABC13]
Sexual Abuse Of The Student
The Sexual Abuse Began Shortly After The Boy Turned 13. Court documents said Bodine and the student first had sexual intercourse in April 2018, shortly after his 13th birthday. Because of the student’s age, he could not legally consent to the sexual conduct. [ABC13]
The Abuse Continued For Nearly Three Years. Authorities said the sexual conduct continued from 2018 until approximately March 2021, when the student was approaching his 16th birthday. [FOX 26]
Sexual Encounters Occurred In Bodine’s Classroom And Vehicle. The student told investigators that sexual activity occurred multiple times in Bodine’s car and also inside her classroom at Tomball Intermediate School. Bodine later admitted having a sexual relationship with the former student. [KPRC]
Bodine Moved Into The Student’s Apartment Complex After Her Divorce. Court records said Bodine moved into the same apartment complex where the student lived after her divorce. When the boy’s family later moved to the south side of Houston, Bodine continued driving to his home. [ABC13]
Bodine Continued Visiting After The Student’s Family Moved Away. ABC13 reported that Bodine would drive to the family’s new home approximately two to four times per month and that the sexual relationship continued until March 2021. [ABC13]
How The Marka Bodine Case Was Discovered
Bodine Initially Told Her Principal That The Student Was Harassing Her. The investigation began after Bodine told the principal at Tomball Intermediate School that the former student was harassing her. She said the teenager had obtained private photographs of her, manipulated images and was threatening to hurt himself. [KPRC]
The Student Told Police A Different Story. When investigators interviewed the teenager, he disclosed the years-long sexual relationship and described how the communications began while he was one of Bodine’s students. [KPRC]
A Search Of Their Phones Produced Evidence Supporting The Student’s Account. Investigators examined electronic devices belonging to both Bodine and the teenager and found messages and sexually explicit images exchanged between them. [KPRC]

Tomball Police Arrested Bodine On April 17, 2021. Police arrested the then-31-year-old former teacher after receiving the student’s allegations on April 12 and conducting an investigation with Tomball ISD and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. [KPRC]
