Jessica Mitchell Found Murdered. “Jessica Mitchell, 30, “was the victim of multiple gunshot wounds,” said Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, in a statement. Mitchell was found in a vehicle by firefighters responding to a report of a vehicle collision, NBC affiliate WOAI in San Antonio reported.” [NBC News]

First Responders Initially Believed The Crime Scene Was A Car Crash. “On New Year’s Day around 2:30 a.m., first responders went to what they thought was a car crash on the North Side. Instead, a team of firefighters discovered a shooting victim.” [Morgan Burrell]

Police Searching For “Possibly Red” Vehicle In Connection With Murder. “Officers were dispatched to eastbound IH-10 and West Ave. for a stranded vehicle in the left lane causing a hazard. Officers arrived and found a white 2019 Dodge Charger (similar to the one pictured) with multiple gunshots to the driver’s side door and window. The victim, 30-year-old Jessica Mitchell, was transported by EMS to University Hospital where she was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. The suspect vehicle is possibly red in color and should have damage to the passenger side of the vehicle. Army Confirms Mitchell’s Death In Statement. “We can confirm that Staff Sergeant Jessica Mitchell, a drill sergeant assigned to U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE), on JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, Texas was pronounced dead at University Hospital San Antonio around 3 a.m. on January 1, 2021. Mitchell, a 68E Dental Specialist, has been assigned to MEDCoE since August 2019. Prior to this assignment she served at a JBSA dental clinic since October 2017.” [US Army Statement]
