Jason Nightengale Killed 3 People and Injured 4 Others In The South Side Of Chicago. “The shooter, 32-year-old Jason Nightengale, then “just randomly” walked into an apartment building a block away, where he shot a 46-year-old security guard who was sitting at the desk and a 77-year-old woman who was getting her mail, Brown said. The guard was pronounced dead at a hospital and the older woman, who was shot in the head, was hospitalized in critical condition, the Chicago Tribune reported.” [AP]
Nightengale Took A Woman Hostage In An IHOP. “The spree of terror came to an end in Evanston when police responded to a call of a man with a gun at 5:38 p.m. inside a CVS store at 101 Asbury Ave. Shots were fired inside the store, Evanston Police Chief Demitrous Cook said. Officers then chased Nightengale as he ran into the IHOP restaurant across the street, where he took a woman hostage, Cook said.” [Sun-Times]
Nightengale Made Threatening Facebook Posts. “In some videos posted this week, Nightengale said he was out looking for people to victimize. “I’m looking for somebody by themself, you know what I mean? Walking to their car,” Nightengale says as he walks across a strip mall parking lot. “It might be this guy,” he continues as he turns the camera toward an idling SUV with a driver sitting behind the wheel. “I might jack his ass. No. He looks like a problem…I don’t need no problem.”” [CWB Chicago]
Nightengale Had Previous Arrests For Drugs and Guns. “Cook County Court records obtained by the I-Team early Sunday reveal a lengthy series of arrests and prosecutions beginning in 2005 for gun and drug violations, criminal trespass, theft, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless conduct and domestic violence.” [ABC 7]
