Ime Udoka Scandal Details
Report: Udoka Could Face Suspension Over Intimate Relationship. “Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka had an improper intimate and consensual relationship with a female member of the team staff — a violation of the franchise’s code of conduct — according to an early Thursday morning report by The Athletic’s Shams Charania. ESPN’S Adrian Wojnarowski first reported late Wednesday night that Udoka could be facing possible disciplinary action and said no decision has been made yet on the length of the suspension, but it could be for the entire 2022-23 season. A decision on the length of the suspension could come as early as Thursday morning.” [NY Post]
The Athletic: Udoka “Had Improper” Relationship. “Celtics coach Ime Udoka had an improper intimate and consensual relationship with a female member of the team staff, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. It’s been deemed a violation of franchise’s code of conduct.” [Shams Charania]
ESPN: Relationship Was Consensual. “The relationship was considered a violation of the organization’s guidelines, and a decision on the length of that suspension is expected to come as soon as Thursday, sources said. While no final decision has been made, internal discussions have included scenarios that would keep Udoka out for the entirety of the 2022-23 season, sources said. It isn’t believed that Udoka’s job is in jeopardy, sources said.” [ESPN]
Report: Celtics, Not NBA Would Punish Udoka. “NBC Sports Boston’s Michael Holley said it’s important to note this appears to be a team issue — not a league issue. “The news about discipline for Celtics Coach Ime Udoka is significant because you usually don’t see this in the NBA,” Holley said. “Coaches are fined sometimes for comments about officials, or if they’re going to be suspended it’s a game or two, but news about a significant suspension for team violations suggests something very serious.”” [NBC]
