Shinji Aoyama Scandal Details
Shinji Aoyama Forced Out Of Honda. “Shinji Aoyama, who is also the company’s director, resigned following an investigation by Honda’s audit committee. The firm did not give details about Aoyama’s behaviour, which happened ‘outside of work hours’, but said CEO Toshihiro Mibe will take a 20 per cent salary cut for two months ‘in light of the seriousness’ of the matter. In a statement, they added: ‘It is deeply regrettable that an individual positioned as a leader in the management of the company, and who is expected to set an example for the respect of human rights and compliance with relevant laws and regulations, has become the subject of an allegation of conduct contrary to these principles. We take this incident very seriously and recognize that restoring trust is our top priority. We will also consider measures to prevent recurrence and further strengthen our compliance system across the company. In light of this incident, we are currently promptly considering our future management structure and will announce it shortly.'” [Daily Mail]
Aoyama Has Been With Honda Since 1986. “Aoyama was one of two executive vice presidents ranking just below Mibe, 63, who’s been CEO since 2021. Aoyama had spent his career with the Tokyo-based company, joining in 1986. His previous roles included leading Honda’s motorcycle business, its North American operations and its electrification efforts.” [Japan Times]
