Idd Was Shot And Killed During A Traffic Stop. “Minneapolis police have released bodycam footage of a fatal shooting by officers, the first death at the hands of police in the US city since that of George Floyd, a black man, in May. The victim, Dolal Idd, 23, was a suspect in a felony and was stopped by police on Wednesday. He was also black. Initial witness statements and police say Mr Idd fired first and was shot dead when the officers returned fire.” [BBC]

Officers In Dolal Idd Shooting Identified. “The BCA identified the officers involved in the shooting as: Officer Paul Huynh, who has been with the department for six years. Sgt. Darcy Klund, who has been with the department for 33 years. Officer Jason Schmitt, who has been with the department for 23 years” [Bring Me The News]

Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Released A Statement. “Hutchinson said the body-worn camera video shows Deputies knocking on the exterior door, which was ajar, entering the home and announcing multiple times that they were there as part of an official search of the residence. Based on video review, the Deputies asked everyone in the home to come to the main level where all remained for about 15 minutes until BCA agents entered the home. Per HCSO procedure for all high-risk search warrants, the adults in the home were handcuffed. Bayle Gelle, Dolal Idd’s Father, Says Police Shouted At Him and His Children. “On the night of the search, Mr. Gelle said, the deputies shouted at him and his younger children, ages 4, 7 and 9, who had followed him downstairs, but did not immediately identify themselves when he asked who they were.” [NY Times]

Protesters Are Demanding an Investigation of the Shooting. “Protesters took to the streets on Thursday, following the police shooting death of 23-year-old Dolal Idd in the same neighborhood where George Floyd died in May. “We are angry right now, we are frustrated right now, because we said ‘No’ after George Floyd was killed, but it didn’t take long until another body fell,” protester Jaylani Hussein told Minneapolis ABC affiliate KSTP Thursday night.” [ABC News]

Police Released Video Of Their Search of the Family’s Home. “The video shows the moments as the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension enter the last known address for Dolal Idd. Idd was shot in what police are calling an exchange of gunfire outside a gas station on Cedar Avenue and East 36th Street in Minneapolis. Officers say they were conducting a traffic stop when Idd fired his weapon and was killed as officers returned fire.” [Fox 9]
