Denorver Garrett is a Louisville, Kentucky man whose arrest by the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) has gone viral. Garrett was arrested at Jefferson Square Park.

Video Shows Police Punching Garrett. “The video shows the officers force the man to the ground, and as that’s occurring, one of the LMPD officers begins striking the individual in the face. Once the man is mostly on the ground, the officer can be seen repeatedly striking the individual. The four other officers continue to pin the man down as they try to arrest him. Garrett Was At Breonna Taylor Protest. “Jamie Hendricks, who took the video, said Garrett had been protesting in a crosswalk before the arrest, carrying a signature cross that has made him recognizable at local demonstrations over the death of Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old unarmed Black woman who was shot and killed by Louisville police in March 2020.” [Courier Journal]

Police Conducting Internal Investigation Of Attack. “Louisville Metro Police will conduct an internal investigation into an officer who was captured on video punching a man several times in the face during an arrest Sunday at Jefferson Square Park, Chief Erika Shields said in a statement. Shields, who did not name the officer, said his conduct raised “serious questions and is not consistent with LMPD training.” ” [WDRB]
