Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for the 42-year-old on Sept. 10, stating “probable cause” as the reason.”[ABC]
Melton Arrested, Accused Of Battery Against Student. “Investigators say Jaime Melton, 42, an English teacher at the school was arrested Sunday on a charge of sexual battery in connection with an incident that was reported earlier this month. Investigators recently learned of evidence against Melton and arrested her Sunday on a charge of sexual battery, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Police Believe Melton Allegations Are Isolated Incident. “She was arrested Sunday for sexual battery a day after local authorities issued a warrant for her arrest. “This woman was a trusted member of this community who was responsible for the education and well-being of students,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister in a statement. “Instead she violated that trust. Warrant: Melton Told Teen That Husband Would Be Out Of Town Before Encounter. “Jamie Melton, an English teacher at Tampa’s renowned Carrollwood Day School, told the teen that her spouse would be out of town on several dates and the victim told police that they planned to meet, the warrant said. The victim went to Melton’s home last Friday, where the teacher laid down on her bed before the teen climbed on top of her and the pair began to kiss, court papers state.” [NY Post]
