The private information of over 100,000 current and former Navy sailors has been stolen by hackers.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services told the Navy that a laptop used by one of their employees under naval contract was compromised.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is investigating the breach and have reported so far that the information from 134,386 sailors has been accessed.
In a statement, Chief of Naval Personnel Vice Adm. Robert Burke said, “The Navy takes this incident extremely seriously — this is a matter of trust for our sailors. We are in the early stages of investigating and are working quickly to identify and take care of those affected by this breach.”
