Report: Facebook Built Tool To Help China Censor The Internet

A new report appears to show Facebook working to stop the flow of information online.

According to the Washington Post, Facebook has built a tool targeted towards the Chinese market that would censor posts on the social network before they appear online.

The tool is apparently part of Facebook’s ploy to comply with China’s draconian censorship laws and get access to the millions of curtains inside the country.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made various public relations pitches towards the Chinese government, but the service has been blocked there since 2009.

Google pulled out of China after its services were blocked and email accounts of activists were hacked.

Facebook is currently under fire in the United States for allowing fake pro-Donald Trump news to flourish on its service, earning it revenue and possibly influencing the outcome of the 2016 election with false stories about Hillary Clinton.
