An NBC affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina, censored portions of comedian Dave Chappelle’s monologue from the most recent broadcast of Saturday Night Live.
WRAL television cut the audio from the live broadcast of the comedy and sketch program nine times.
In one instance, the station also cut the sound from a spoof of the television series The Walking Dead. In this case, the segment was taped yet the station chose to censor the material anyway.
The broadcast was the first one aired since Trump won the election. When Trump is sworn in as president, he will have power over the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which has significant say over stations that use the public airwaves like WRAL.
The decision to modify a broadcast with anti-Trump overtones may be a sign of things to come as broadcast outlets choose to curry favor with the incoming administration.
