“Deborah Heidbrink lives in the same west Mesa condominium complex as Trent Christopher Benson, 36, the suspect arrested by Mesa police on suspicion of sexually assaulting four women and strangling two of them. A single mother, Heidbrink said she developed a friendship with Benson, a single father. She said her 10-year-old son also became friends with Benson’s 7-year-old son. “He takes them everywhere. He’s done everything with my son,” Heidbrink said. “I can’t believe it’s the same person.” Heidbrink said Benson would supervise children as they rode their bicycles and played on skateboards outside the complex, fixed her flat tire, tuned up her car and attended homeowners’ association meetings. “This is like a guy who is a pillar of the community,” she said. “He owned his own house.
