Facebook was used as a vehicle by Russian agents to influence the 2016 presidential election in order to sway the results in favor of Donald Trump.

How Russians Used Facebook To Influence The 2016 Election

Russian operatives spent $100,000 in ads on Facebook to generate “likes” for dummy Facebook Pages designed to look like news sources. These pages generated hundreds of thousands of anti-Hillary Clinton and pro-Donald Trump news stories that were seen by millions of people, especially in “swing” states key to the outcome of the election.

The ads were purchased by a Russian “troll farm” called The Internet Research Agency.

One Russian group, “SecuredBorders” used racist memes and stories to promote Trump.

Facebook Russia Cover-Up

Originally, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that stories about the company influencing the election were “pretty crazy.” Since then it has been exposed that Facebook was a vehicle for Russian influence, and that Facebook was aware of this.

Facebook is refusing to reveal the ads that were run by Russians during the election to help Trump.
