Donald Trump’s favorite propaganda site is apparently very concerned that Senator Kamala Harris could make him a one-term president.
Breitbart News, the alt-right white supremacist website that has a direct line to the Trump administration has been on a tear recently in pumping out anti-Harris stories. The site has published at least 14 stories since the beginning of June attacking the popular California senator.
Top Trump aide Steve Bannon recently received a waiver from Trump himself that would allow him to control the editorial output of Breitbart, which he used to run before joining team Trump. It is possible that the Harris focus recognizes that her visibility as part of the resistance to Trump’s presidency is being taken as a very real threat from the highest levels.
Some evidence of Breitbart’s Kamala Harris obsession:
Breitbart has been Trump’s attack dog, going after his Republican rivals and other political enemies by spreading lies, innuendo, and strange conspiracy theories. Some reports alleged that Trump had personally bought off Breitbart for positive coverage.
The site is no stranger to racial politics either. Breitbart News has a “black crime” tag that it has used to push stories alleging that black Americans are especially violent.
Since her election last November, Harris has positioned herself as the anti-Trump, advocating for the rights of minorities and women at the same time the Trump administration has wrapped itself in the cloak of sexism and racism.
Harris recently blasted the health care plan being pushed by Trump and his allies Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, noting, “Playing politics with the health of 22M people is wrong. It’s morally wrong.”
She sounded a call to action on Independence Day, tweeting, “Embrace your freedoms as an American: Get involved. Attend town halls or city council meeting. Run for office yourselves. Vote.”
That message runs counter to the campaign in favor of voter suppression that Republicans have pushed for years, and the recent demand from the Trump administration that states turn over voter information so that even more can be done to cut down on voter turnout. That request, orchestrated by anti-immigration activist Kris Kobach, was rejected by even Republican-led states.
The first term senator, who previously served as California’s attorney general, has been touted as a likely candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, along with figures like Elizabeth Warren, Kristen Gillibrand, Cory Booker, and Bernie Sanders.
Harris’ message is resonating, and the Trump tribe appears to have noticed — and they don’t like it at all.
