President Obama continued a holiday tradition with his final visit with the troops on Christmas day. Along with First Lady Michelle Obama, he went to Marine Corps Base Hawaii and spoke to troops and their families as they ate Christmas dinner.
The commander-in-chief told them, “As tough as it is to be deployed, the people here in America, back home, understand that every single day you serve, you’re fighting for our freedom.”
He added, “I just want all of you to know that it has been the privilege of my life to serve as your commander in chief.”
Obama said that even after he leaves the White House, “my gratitude to you will remain” and that his wife felt the same way.
Obama also joked that as a former president he will still have privileges on base, including use of the gym and the golf course.
