Even in the right-wing, pro-Trump world of Fox News Channel, his decision to recognize the leader of Taiwan and anger the Chinese government is getting slammed.
Gillian Turner, a Fox News contributor who served on the White House National Security Council under both George W. Bush and President Barack Obama, called Trump’s phone call “disastrous” in an appearance on the network on Saturday.
Turner told the anchor that Trump’s call angered the Chinese and doing so would endanger “our national security interests” because the United States needs China as a check on North Korea’s nuclear program. She also pointed out that since China holds billions of American debt, we need to remain in their good graces in order to stave off a financial crisis that would affect America and the world.
