A North Carolina teacher is being accused of bullying and harassing a Muslim student.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has lodged a complaint with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education about a teacher at David Cox Road Elementary School in north Charlotte.
In a letter from their lawyer Maha Sayed, CAIR alleges that the student was made to carry a heavy backpack throughout the day that “contained a large textbook and headphones, which caused (the student) to develop significant back pain.” The letter goes on to allege the teacher “would also treat (the student) harshly and reportedly called him ‘bad Muslim boy’ on multiple occasions.”
A spokesperson for the school district told The Charlotte Observer they are currently investigating the complaints.
