Donald Trump’s inauguration team tried to tout a big celebrity guest but ended up with egg on their faces.
Anthony Scaramucci, vice chair of the inaugural committee told the BBC that “Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the mall for inauguration,” adding, “This will be the first American president in U.S. history that enters the White House with a pro-gay rights stance.”
But Elton John isn’t coming. His publicist told The Daily Beast, “Elton will not be performing a Trump inauguration.”
The claim echoes the Trump team’s big talk about the celebrities that would be attending the Republican convention, only to have a low wattage affair where the likes of Scott Baio counted as a “celebrity” guest along with a gang of also-rans and never-weres.
Trump will have big feet to fill as far as inaugural performers go. At his first inauguration in 2009, President Obama was serenaded by Aretha Franklin. At his second inauguration in 2013, Beyonce was the star attraction.
