Who Is James Comey?
James Comey is the Director of the FBI. He is a registered Republican.
Clinton Email Investigation
In July 2016, FBI Director Comey said that he and the bureau had found no criminal conduct in the way that Hillary Clinton had set up and used a private email server during her time as Secretary of State.
In October 2016 Comey announced that the FBI would be examining emails related to an investigation of former Rep. Anthony Weiner, who is the estranged husband of Clinton aide Huma Abedin. Weiner has been involved in multiple sexting scandals and is currently under probe for texts he allegedly exchanged with what he thought was an underage girl.
Comey’s announcement came after Republicans in the House of Representatives, led by Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), attacked him for not accusing Clinton of committing a crime with the emails.
According to news reports, none of the emails are to or from Hillary Clinton.
The Department of Justice, including Attorney General Loretta Lynch, reportedly protested Comey’s decision to announce the email inquiry just 10 days before the presidential election.
Donald Trump Reaction To Comey Email News
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has claimed that the Comey announcement is proof that Clinton broke the law, but he has no evidence of this. Trump also claims that Clinton offered a job to Attorney General Lynch in exchange for her support, this is a false and untrue conspiracy theory.
