Dreamworld Theme Park Thunder River Rapids Accident

An accident has occurred at the Dreamworld theme park in Coomera, Gold Coast, Australia.


According to Dreamworld, there were at least three deaths as a result of an accident on the rapid ride at the park. Police have confirmed four adult deaths on the ride. The ride where the accident happened is called Thunder River Rapids.

Olympic champion Matthew Centrowitz tweeted that he was on the ride: “Just got off a ride 15 mins ago that has 1 person seriously injured & 2 others trapped.”

Early reports indicate the accident had something to do with a conveyor belt attached to the ride.

Dreamworld Statement on the Accident

Statement: “Dreamworld confirms there has been at least three fatalities at its theme park in Queensland today. Dreamworld is working as quickly as possible to establish the facts around the incident and is working closely with emergency authorities and police to do this.Dreamworld’s focus and priority is with the families of those involved in this tragedy and will be providing an update to the public as soon as information becomes available.”

Reaction To Dreamworld Accident

Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate: “Our thoughts are with the families of those affected – and the emergency staff in attendance. I urge everyone to show the respect needed as the relevant authorities undertake investigations in to what has occurred. A truly sad day for all.”
