Qandeel Baloch Murder
Police say Qandeel Baloch was strangled and killed by her brother. She was found dead in her home near the city of Multan on Friday night.
Her brother has been missing since her body was found. Local police chief Azhar Akram said, “An autopsy is happening but we suspect strangulation.” Her parents also confirmed to the Associated Press that one of her six brothers is responsible for her death.
Qandeel Baloch Made Controversial Selfies
Baloch was known in Pakistan for popular and and provocative selfie videos, where she talked openly about her sexuality — which is not allowed in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. She once promised to strip for the captain of the Pakistan cricket team if they won a match against India.
Baloch also showed her cleavage in selfies with a prominent Muslim cleric while sharing a couch with him. The uproar over those images caused a national scandal, prompting her to ask the Interior Ministry for help with security.The request was denied.

What Is An Honor Killing?
An honor killing is the murder of a member of a family by other members, due to the belief that the victim has brought shame or dishonor upon the family, or has violated the principles of a community or a religion. Reasons often used to justify an honor killing are: refusing to enter an arranged marriage, being in a relationship that is disapproved by their family, having sex outside marriage, becoming the victim of rape, dressing in ways which are deemed inappropriate, engaging in non-heterosexual relations or renouncing a faith.
