Edward Archer is a Philadelphia man who shot police officer Jesse Harnett, 33. Archer fired 11 rounds at the officer, three of which hit him in his arm.
Archer claimed to have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (aka ISIS, ISIL or Daesh).
Surveillance video shows Archer dressed in a long white robe walking towards the police car, shooting at the officer through the window.
Police said after they arrested Archer he told them he had commited the attack “in the name of Islam.”
Philadelphia Police Captain James Clark said, “He said he pledges his allegiance to Islamic State, he follows Allah and that was the reason he was called on to do this.”
His mother, Valerie Holliday, said he has been “hearing voices in his head” and “been acting kind strange lately.”
She described him as a devout Muslim, but did not believe his faith was behind his attack.
She says he suffered head injuries while playing football for Pennwood High School and in a moped accident.
Edward was found guilty in November 2015 of forging documents, careless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license and other related offenses.
He defended himself and declined being assigned a public defender.
He was also previously sentenced to 9 to 23 months in jail and 2 years probation for an assault case. In that case he was charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy, firearms offenses and terroristic threats.
Court documents say Archer threatened a man with a gun.
