Noma Dumezweni is a British actress, born in 1969.
On December 21 2015 it was announced that Noma Dumezweni had been cast as Hermione Granger in the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child which will appear on London’s West End.
Dumezweni is black, while the role has traditionally been depicted as white in the Harry Potter series of books and movies.
Dumezweni was born in Swaziland (part of South Africa), but grew up in the United Kingdom. She is a winner of the Laurence Olivier Award, which is given by the Society of London Theatre to recognize excellence in professional theater. She won the award for her role in the play A Raisin In The Sun.
She has appeared in over a dozen theater productions in London and has had guest roles on popular British television shows like Doctor Who and Shameless.
She has also appeared in several radio plays.
