At a press conference on Wednesday, Donald Trump joined Jeb Bush in using the racist term “anchor baby.”
Trump told reporters in New Hampshire, “there’s a very big question as to the anchor babies” and whether children born to undocumented immigrants automatically become American citizens under the 14th amendment. Of course, in reality there is no question. Despite half of the Republican field’s expressed desire to ignore the Constitution, once you’re born in America, you are an American – whether your parents are documented, undocumented or in-between.
But like Jeb Bush earlier in the day, Trump had no concerns about using the racist term to describe what are legally his fellow Americans.
