The Cotopaxi volcano has erupted in Ecuador, near the capital of Quito.

In response to the Cotopaxi eruption, Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa declared a state of emergency, which will allow flexibility in government funds to respond to the eruption.

Cotopaxi began erupting on Friday, spewing ash two miles into the sky, with debris landing within a 30 mile radius of the volcano.

Some villages near to the volcano have been evacuated.
