At this point I’m just hoping Donald Trump lasts until the first Republican debate on Fox, which could result in more rhetorical bloodshed than the Red Wedding on Game of Thrones. But his racism about Mexican immigrants – he called them murders and “rapists” in case you missed it – is scaring the hell out of the GOP rank and file, from the money men to the party chairman, Reince Priebus:
The head of the Republican National Committee, responding to demands from increasingly worried party leaders, spent nearly an hour Wednesday on the phone with Donald Trump, urging the presidential candidate to tone down his inflammatory comments about immigration that have infuriated a key election constituency.
Trump gone amok is another example of the noise machine – led by Fox – creating yet another Frankenstein’s monster. They’ve built a party and movement on the back of racism and intolerance, and now Trump is the living embodiment of it. And they can’t stop it. There’s no downside for Trump to be a jerk. It’s part of his brand, even losing all of his financial deals.
