GOP Threatens Violence Over Immigration Order

Sen. Tom Coburn

Well, that was quick but not expected. Sen. Tom Coburn, is echoing the sentiment from Sen. John Cornyn from a few years ago: If conservatives don’t get their way, things could get violent.

Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn warns there could be not only a political firestorm but acts of civil disobedience and even violence in reaction to President Obama’s executive order on immigration Thursday.

“The country’s going to go nuts, because they’re going to see it as a move outside the authority of the president, and it’s going to be a very serious situation,” Coburn said on Capital Download. “You’re going to see — hopefully not — but you could see instances of anarchy. … You could see violence.”

Despite the recent warbling of a new conservative ascendancy thanks to their victory in a low turnout, high elderly participation election, we are still in the last throes of 20th century conservatism. Angry people, afraid of the world changing, and yes – clinging to their guns and nativist attitudes of what America “should” be rather than what it is and will be.

This country is getting more diverse. The people who traditionally held all the power are being pushed to give up some of it (and frankly, not that much in the grand scheme – the levers are still largely being pulled by older, rich, white, males). Too bad for them. It happens. And none of your frankly pathetic threats of violence are going to stop it.
